Luke Chapter 2
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
And in the Same region there were shepherds out in the field keeping watch over their flock by night.
and an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around themand they were filled with great fear And the angel said to them
"Fear not, for behold I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people
for unto you is born this day in the city of David a saviour, who is Christ the Lord
And this will be a sign for you you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger"
and suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying
Glory to God in the Highest and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased.
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
Isaiah 9:6-7 (ESV)
